Volkswagen Tiguan debut in India at base price of 27.68 lakh


Versatility as Volkswagen describes its modern SUV, based on the MQB platform. Which is the same as Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne SUVs the platform offers greater stability and safety. The car includes Specially alloyed high-strength steel in certain exterior body panels hence increases its sturdiness. As opposed to Q7 and cayenne which come to India as completely built units (CBU).  Tiguan is the first product based on the MQB platform to be assembled in India.

Engine & Power figures

Although assembled in India this compact crossover SUV is no slouch with its 2.0L Turbocharged diesel engine producing  power of 143 PS and 340 Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed DSG Gearbox and claims a mileage of almost 17.06 kmpl.


Unlike its previous iteration Tiguan gets a bolder front facing look with massive horizontal chrome grille, LED headlamps with DRLs. Dimensional changes from the previous iteration are as follows 60mm longer wheelbase and 33mm increased width. Besides, the ground clearance has also been dropped by 33mm and it weighs 50kgs lesser than its predecessor (1,720kg).It gets 18-inch alloy wheels and panaromic sunroof.

Its Interior consists of Vienna leather seats and 3 zone climate control and an 8-inch infotainment system that supports App connect and navigation.

Features offered in Comfortline variant are thus :

The base grade in the carline sports LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights, body-coloured bumpers, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED tail-lamps and power-operated heated front seats on the outside. It also includes paddle shifters, cruise control, dual front airbags, front airbags, anti-lock-braking system, ESC, front disc brakes, rear disc brakes, rain sensors and park distance control. Insides comes with dark gris inserts for dashboard and front panels.


Features offered in Highline are as follows: 

In addition to the Comfortline features, the range topping trim will also offer panoramic sunroof, keyless entry with push-button start, easy open tailgate with delayed closing function, ambient lighting, illuminated front scuff plates, reverse parking cameras and self-sealing tyres. In place of the 17-inch alloys, it gets the larger 18-inch units. Additionally, the dual-tone front bumper gets chrome inserts, cornering lights and silver roof rails atop.


Finally with its price Volkswagen Tiguan competes directly against  Ford Endeavour, Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Santa Fe/Tucson, Toyota Fortuner, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Isuzu MUX SUVs and BMW X1.
